Plant known to cause burns, blindness spotted in Webster

Officials in Webster are warning residents that a plant known to cause burns and blindness has been spotted in town.

Giant hogweed was found in the area of Schlegel Road near Kent Park, according to town officials.

The sap inside the towering plant can cause burns on your skin and blindness if you're exposed to the sun. 

Residents are urged to know what the DEC guidelines are for identifying and reporting the toxic plant, and how to protect yourself.

If you see the plant, you're asked to call the DEC.
