Play spaces popped up across the City of Rochester on Saturday at twenty community organizations, libraries and churches.
The safe places for the children to play were because of an event called PlayROCs!
It was the second annual community-driven initiative run by volunteers. Their goal is to reclaim, repurpose, and revitalize neighborhood space for families.
"82% of kids actually don't play in traditional parks and playgrounds," says Jenn Beideman of the Healthy Kids Coalition, "Traffic safety, neighborhood safety, and unkempt playgrounds actually deter parents from letting kids go outside and play and have fun. So today is actually about promoting those safe places."
The Healthy Kids Coalition is encouraging everyone to join the movement. More information can be found on their website.
