GATES, N.Y. (WHEC)- Police and the owner of a Gates hotel are promising a party on Saturday night that will not be a repeat of a violent scene last weekend.
The Ramada Plaza on Brooks Avenue will be the location of the "Red Light Special" party and concert on Saturday night. It's being hosted by the same promoter whose party erupted into an overcrowded brawl at Schamrocks in Henrietta last weekend.
At that party, crowds threatened firefighters and three people were stabbed.
This week, Gates Police say they're closely watching security at the Ramada. All guests will be screened and their IDs will be checked. Police will remain close by, especially after the end of the event when crowds move outside.
Hotel owner Naeem Butt says he was worried after the Schamrocks violence, but he's been reassured.
"This will be a good message that will be sent to the people," he says, "Because that incident last week, I think it did probably scare a lot of people. So this is good. I am sure it's going to be very smooth."
Butts met with the Gates Police, fire officials, and the promoter to go over safety measures on Thursday.
Police actually raised alarms over a previous party by the promoter last summer, and say they kept a close watch then too, and the entire event went off smoothly.
