MARION, N.Y. (WHEC) -- State police confirm one person has died in the Marion house fire Monday.
According to New York State Trooper Mark O'Donnell, a body has been discovered in the Wayne County home that went up in flames just before 2 p.m.
"We have located the body of an adult elderly female at that location. We believe it’s the person we assumed it to be but we will not release the name of that individual until an autopsy is performed tomorrow," said Trooper O' Donnell.
Multiple crews responded to the fire on Cory Corners Road but the home was already engulfed in flames and considered too dangerous to enter.
The home is now considered a total loss by Walworth fire officials.
Earlier on Monday, Troopers told News10NBC during a media briefing that one elderly person was unaccounted for.
A family member confirmed with News10NBC that a relative had left to get food and returned to find the house on fire.
Trooper O'Donnell says crews will wait until the house cools down before retrieving the body.
State police are expected to release the victim's identity Tuesday.
