Police search for driver in fatal Irondequoit hit-and-run

Police are still searching for the driver responsible for killing an elderly woman in a hit-and-run Saturday morning.

Officers say 87-year-old Joan Dierna was checking her mailbox when she was hit on Bay View Road in Irondequoit around 10 a.m.


Police say the driver took off, leaving Dierna lying dead in the street.

Dierna was a co-founder of the Dierna Funeral Home on Culver Road in Irondequoit. 

Calling hours will be held there on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Cecilia's Church on Culver Road in Irondequoit on Nov. 26 at 11 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
