48-year-old man killed in Henrietta shooting

Investigators are trying to figure out how a man ended up shot to death inside a Henrietta home Friday evening.

Deputies got to the home on Parkerhouse Road within three minutes of getting the call.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says shortly after 5 p.m., deputies found a 48-year-old Rochester man shot dead at the scene. Three other people in the house were taken into custody.

"Why did this happen here? I haven't experienced anything like this," said Jett Kopaiek, neighbor.

Rattled neighbors say the family that lived at the home was unusually friendly on a block where not many people know each other.

"I would drive up the street and they're one of the few families that would wave and say 'hi', and I'd say 'hi' to the kids," said Linda Andersen, neighbor.

Sheriff Todd Baxter says several upset relatives rushed to the scene, gave deputies statements and ran to the victim's side.

"I think what you see there is distraught family members responding and hearing some terrible news and that's their emotional reaction to that. That's very unfortunate. You've got to imagine how this touches everybody," said Sheriff Baxter.

In the early stages of the investigation, Sheriff Baxter said it looked like a domestic-related incident inside a home, not posing a threat to the broader community. However, neighbors tell News10NBC they are still shaken up.

"You kind of don't feel safe anymore," added Kopaiek.

Neighbors say Friday's news is especially disheartening because the woman who lives there lost her husband when he died earlier this year.

"You go down the street and it's all lit up with Christmas lights. You know this is a terrible thing to occur," said Sheriff Baxter.

The home, and a stretch of Parkerhouse Road, remain taped off as detectives go over the scene. News10NBC will provide additional details as they become available.
