ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County leaders are expected to discuss a new bill regulating grease traps following the death of 3-year-old boy last month.

Bryce Raynor died after falling into a grease trap at Tim Hortons on University Avenue in Rochester. Police say the cover caved in when he stepped on it.

The bill calls for grease trap covers to withstand a sufficient amount of weight. Those covers would also have to be bolted down or heavy enough to prevent unauthorized access.

During Tuesday night's meeting, county leaders will select a date for the first public hearing. County officials say the first public hearing will most likely take place before the legislature meeting on Sept. 10.

The bill will be voted on during the Sept. 10 meeting. A second public hearing will take place at a later date before the bill is signed into law.

County officials expect the law to be on the books by the end of September.
