Red Cross has lowest post-summer blood inventory in 6 years

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The American Red Cross said it has the lowest post-summer blood inventory level in six years.

It’s asking donors of all blood types, especially type O, and platelet donors to make an appointment.

It says it needs 10,000 additional blood products each week over the next month for the blood supply to recover and meet hospital and patient needs.

The Red Cross is giving everyone who donates through Sept. 30 a limited-edition, football-inspired Red Cross T-shirt and a digital free haircut coupon from Sport Clips Haircuts, while supplies last.

Those who donate in October will get a digital coupon for a free Zaxby’s® Signature Sandwich or a $5 e-gift card to a retailer of their choice.
