WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Western New York referee is alive after going into cardiac arrest on a basketball court.

People in the crowd were quick to act as Benjy Bluman collapsed while refereeing a championship game at Williamsville North High School back in December.

There were several health professionals in the stands, most were parents of players, who jumped into action when they saw Bluman fall.

Witnesses say Bluman wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse when help arrived. Immediately, they started CPR as well as mouth to mouth resuscitation and a defibrillator. Bluman’s pulse came back on the third try.

Bluman got to thank his rescuers at a special ceremony Wednesday night.
