Regulators urge consumers to stop using Peloton Tread+ after multiple children injured

(WHEC) — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning the public about the danger of a popular exercise machine after multiple incidents of small children and a pet being injured beneath the machine.

The Peloton Tread+ exercise machine, formerly known as "Tread", poses serious health and safety risks, according to the CPSC.

CPSC says the Peloton Tread+ poses serious risks to children for abrasions, fractures, and death. In light of multiple reports of children becoming entrapped, pinned, and pulled under the rear roller of the product.

So far, the CPSC is aware of 39 incidents relating to the Peloton Tread+, including one death.

CPSC released a video that shows the dangers of the exercise machine.

CPSC advises the public to stop using the machine if there are small children or pets at home. If you must continue using the machine, it should be placed in a locked room to prevent access to children or pets.

It is also advised to keep all objects, including exercise balls and other equipment away from the treadmill when in use. When the treadmill is not in use, consumers should unplug and store the safety key away from the device and out of reach of children.
