Democratic candidate Fatimat Reid has won the Monroe County Family Court judgeship.
Chairwoman Brittaney Wells and the Monroe County Democratic Committee made the announcement Tuesday.
With less than 300 ballots left to be counted, Reid is currently ahead of her opponent, Republican Nicole Bayly, by over 800 votes and is expected to be declared the winner Wednesday.
Below you will find Chairwoman Wells' full statement in regards to Reid's win.
"I am ecstatic to learn that Fatimat Reid will be declared the winner in the hotly contested family court race. Democratic candidates did very well throughout Monroe County and I believe voters realized that our party and its candidates are most in tune with what matters to them and their families. Whether it is fighting for better jobs; access to health care; equal rights; fair wages; social justice; better infrastructure; or a clean environment, Democratic Candidates are working hard to deliver what matters most to our neighbors all across the Rochester Area. Fatimat worked hard to run an excellent race and her experience and temperament will make her an exceptional Judge in the often difficult setting of Family Court. The Democratic Party fights and believes that every vote counts and I am grateful that once every vote has been counted in this race, Fatimat Reid will be our next Monroe County Family Court Judge."
Reid and Chairwoman Wells are expected to hold a press conference Wednesday at 10 a.m.
