(WHEC) — Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed materials related to Governor Andrew Cuomo's book.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the subpoena is part of their probe into COVID-19 related deaths in state nursing homes. State officials who helped edit the early versions of the governor’s book were among those receiving requests for information
Prosecutors specifically asked for contracts and materials used to pitch the governor's leadership book to publishers.
Michael Weinstein, a former federal prosecutor, spoke to WSJ to explain why prosecutors could be interested in the governor's book-related materials.
Weinstein says the book can capture a real-time snapshot of Cuomo’s work around nursing homes during the pandemic.
WSJ reported the subpoenas were sent last month.
In January, a report from New York State Attorney General Letitia James found the NYSDOH's published nursing home death data may have been undercounted by as much as 50%.
