ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Salvation Army launched its yearly Red Kettle Campaign on Monday with the help of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren.

Warren rang the bell at city hall to kick off the campaign. She's serving as the honorary chairperson of the fundraiser this year.

Donations collected at the red kettles across the area will fund services provided by the Salvation Army throughout the year.

"[We're] trying to raise money for the Salvation Army because of the great work that they do in our community," said Warren. "From helping people that are homeless to helping families, to providing food and shelter, it's always good to be able to give back to the community through the Red Kettle Campaign."

Beginning this year, donors won't need to have cash on them to donate: they'll be able to use their phone with Google or Apple Pay.

The Salvation Army has a goal of fundraising $400,000 this year.
