PENFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Rochester natives donated a 177-acre Penfield property to the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The gift comes from real estate entrepreneurs Amy Leenhouts Tait and Robert C. Tait.

The property includes a 60-acre lake and a private mile of Irondequoit Creek next to Ellison Park.

The site is a former Dolomite sand quarry. It will now be known as the Tait Preserve of RIT.

RIT plans to use the property for experiments and research in ecology, agriculture, sustainability, and other fields.
