The latest candidate hoping to represent Monroe County in Washington says she's running to continue Louise Slaughter's progressive legacy.
Brighton Town Board Member Robin Wilt formally announced she's running for New York's 25th Congressional District seat on Monday. Wilt says her campaign quickly drew support from volunteers, collecting over 2,400 petition signatures in two weeks, almost double the number needed to appear on the June 26 primary ballot.
Wilt says she campaign is full of energy.
"The people ask why I'm running for office," she says, "My simple answer is I'm running for all of you. As your congresswoman, I plan to continue to work with you towards single-payer healthcare, economic equality, police and criminal justice reform, housing for all, humane immigration reform, better public education, LGBTQ rights, and ending the toxic influence on money in politics."
In addition to Wilt, the Democratic contenders for the 25th Congressional District include State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle, former journalist Rachel Barnhart, and Rochester City Councilman Adam McFadden.
There is only one Republican candidate- neurosurgeon James Maxwell.
Primaries for both parties are June 26.
