Rochester gears up for St. Patrick's Day celebrations

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Rochester is gearing up for St. Patrick's Day celebrations this weekend and city leaders have already laid out their plans.

Saturday's events will kick off with a five-mile road race, the Runnin of the Green, at 9:30 a.m. Then, the annual Tops Rochester St. Patrick's Day Parade will kick off at 12:30 p.m. at the corner of East Avenue and Alexander Street.

The parade will head down East Avenue to the Liberty Pole. From there, the parade will head west down Main Street and end at the corner of Fitzhugh Street.  

Parade-goers can expect to see additional police downtown. You're also urged to get there early because a number of streets will be blocked off to traffic during the parade.

Lyft released the top five most popular Saint Patrick's Day destinations in Rochester.

The top spots include:

- Filger's East End
- Flour City Station
- Mason's on Alexander        
- Murphy's Law Irish Pub

The ranking is based on 2018 Lyft ride data.
