ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — November is American Diabetes Awareness Month. We wanted to know where we stand as a country and a community when it comes to research, treatment, and other issues facing people with this chronic illness.
Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. The Centers for Disease Control says a little more than one in 10 Americans has it, and one in three has pre-diabetes.
News10NBC's Lynette Adams spoke via Zoom with Jeff Collins, the director of development for the upstate chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
Collins says American Diabetes Awareness Month is about unity and equity. Watch the full interview in the video player above.
