Bates, Swedish bassist Peter Eldh and Danish drummer Peter Bruun make up the "Beloved" trio.

This is their first time in Rochester, but it wasn't their first stop in New York this tour.

Bates explained, "we did a few nights in New York first, two shows a night so that's a bunch of four gigs, and we took the train here and that's a chance to play in this festival, which I've heard about for quite a few years."

News10NBC also learned that a member of the band's father helped build the organ that sits in Christ Church on East Avenue.

The jazz festival will continue for seven more days.

There are dozens of free and paid shows in locations throughout downtown Rochester.
