Rochester man arrested after allegedly firing shots while pumping gas

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – A man was arrested after police say he shot a gun while pumping gas.

It happened at the Sunoco gas station on Dewey Avenue near Lexington Avenue around 3 a.m. Thursday.


Police say James Adams, 31, of Rochester fired two shots at a car leaving the gas station. Adams then put the gun away and continued pumping gas.

The ShotSpotter detection system alerted officers and they arrived moments later.  After a brief struggle, Adams was arrested in the gas station parking lot.

Adams is facing multiple charges, including criminal possession of a weapon and prohibited use of a weapon.
