ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) - Rochester Police are investigating three shootings in just two days, leaving two injured and one dead.
The latest was Sunday night on Webster Avenue and Shafer Street that sent a woman to the hospital.
There was a vigil Sunday night at this same intersection for a 21-year-old man killed there Saturday afternoon.
Police haven’t said if the shootings are connected. No one is in custody at this time.
“It’s a very good neighborhood typically we don’t usually have things like this happen,” said neighbor Aaron Nesmith. “I’m in shock because of what’s going on.”
“It’s right next door to me,” added Nesmith.
Police tell News10NBC a 28-year-old man was shot just half-a-mile away on Bay Street around 2 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s very upsetting because the team is very visible in this community,” said Ray Mayoliz, with Pathways to Peace.
Pathways to Peace provides crisis intervention and street outreach to gangs and youth. Mayoliz is shocked by the violent weekend and says his team will be out in full force Monday in response.
“We are sick and tired of the violence,” said Mayoliz. “It’s a sad situation and it’s unfortunate and we can just continue to do our due diligence and be out here.”
Mayoliz encourages anyone that needs help, looking for outreach or knows a youth getting involved in gangs to reach out to their crime prevention officers or hotlines.
