Study: Rochester ranked among most dangerous U.S. cities

Some upstate New York cities are finding themselves on the wrong side of a nationally ranked study. 

NeighborhoodScout published its rankings for the 100 most dangerous cities and five upstate cities, including Rochester are listed.

Rochester comes in at number 98 on the list, an improvement from its 80 ranking in 2012. 

The study evaluates the number of violent crimes per every 1,000 residents in cities with 25,000 or more people.

Homicide, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault are considered violent crimes, according to the study

Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Newburgh and Albany round out the rest of the upstate New York cities on the list.
