The largest solar farm site in the region is now open.

Rochester Regional Health activated its 5.48 megawatt solar farm in Parma.

It's comprised of nearly 17,000 solar panels covering about 20 acres, making it the second largest in the state.

This solar farm is the latest step in Rochester Regional Health's pursuit of one of the most aggressive health care sustainability goals in the country, pledging to have 100 percent renewable electricity by 2025.

"This project is an opportunity for businesses across the Rochester area to invest in sustainability with no out of pocket costs, this project is owned by SolRiver, a solar finance company out of Colorado. They paid 100 percent for the cost of the project and immediately reduced the cost of electricity at the Rochester Regional Health system," said Kevin Schulte, GreenSpark CEO.

Credits from solar energy produced onsite will be used to remotely power more than 120 off-site practices and support locations.
