The 2018 Rochester River Run & Walk 5K has been canceled due to weather.
Citing the ice storm and concerns about safety for the runners, the organizers announced at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday that the scheduled event, which would have taken place at Genesee Valley Park starting at 8 a.m., would not take place.
The full statement from the 2018 Rochester River Run Committee can be found below:
We regret to inform you that we’ve made the difficult choice to cancel the 2018 Rochester River Run due to the ice storm.
Safety is our top priority at this time. We have boots on the ground at the park, and it is clear at this time that the current conditions—combined with the ongoing forecast for additional ice accumulation—would not allow us to properly clean and maintain a safe event.
We understand the dedication and effort you all have put in to attending and supporting this important event for our patients and their families, and truly thank you for being there and bearing with us as we navigate this unprecedented River Run weather.
We are incredibly grateful and thankful to you for your support of the Rochester River Run and our patients and their families.
