News10NBC celebrates Black History Month by honoring people and places that have paved the way for many in the Rochester area.
Bill Johnson was Rochester's first African American mayor. He served the city for three terms from 1994 to 2005.
Before that, Johnson was the president and CEO of the Urban League of Rochester for more than 20 years; fighting for education, family services, and affordable housing.
Johnson received his master’s degree in political science from Howard University.
News10NBC honors Bill Johnson as a part of Rochester's Roots.
