ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- News10NBC celebrates Black History Month by honoring people and places that have paved the way for many in the Rochester area.

When she returned to Rochester, she was unsure of a career path but enrolled in the Rochester Fire Academy. By graduation, she knew she wanted to serve the community and help others.

When she took the oath in 2014,  Vazquez became the first black woman to join the Rochester Fire Department. She is motivated by her family and working with a great group of professionals.

Vazquez wants other young women to know they can do whatever they put their minds to if they focus on their goal.
