ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Rochester City School District Board President Van White is expressing excitement over the hiring of Terry Dade as superintendent.

Dade currently serves as the assistant school superintendent for Fairfax County, Virginia.

He beat out three finalists in a nationwide search.

Dade replaces Daniel Lowengard who served as interim superintendent after Barbara Deane-Williams stepped down.

"This is a job I believe that can bring out the best of us or the worst of us, and I think Terry has a lot going for him that even in the challenging moments, we'll see someone that is very composed but very informed and I think has a vision about where he wants to go," said White.

On Tuesday night, the board talked about the superintendent in executive session.

White says when all members give him the go-ahead, he will sign Dade's contract.
