Ford says it's an honor to help his students develop arts appreciation.

"I'm a little overwhelmed but I am really proud of the work that I've done here at school," Ford says. "I believe that it's really interdisciplinary and theater can teach so many different lessons. You can tie in science and math and social studies. It obviously involves reading but the biggest piece -- especially with 'Wicked' -- is students were practicing empathy learning how to celebrate differences and how to be a friend."

This award has been given out for 15 years.
