The 17-year-old accused of killing his 18-year-old girlfriend came face to face with her family in court Wednesday morning.

Jermaine Brown is the person the victim's family believed all along was responsible for the murder of 18-year-old Ciara Grimes.

Brown is charged with second-degree manslaughter, felony aggravated criminal contempt and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is charged with criminal contempt because he allegedly violated a court order issued on May 5, just four days before the shooting, that required him to stay away from Grimes.

He's accused of shooting and killing Grimes on May 9 with a .25 caliber pistol. Brown and Grimes were both at a friend's house on Delamaine Drive. Officers say Brown shot Grimes inside the home, dragged her outside, and left her body in the driveway.

Brown's family and friends were in court alongside dozens of the victim's loved ones. When Brown entered the courtroom, he had a smile on his face, which infuriated Grimes' relatives. Some of them stood up and shouted at him before they were escorted out of the courtroom.

Brown and Grimes had been dating for some time, but the victim's family says that relationship was abusive. They also said Grimes just found out she was pregnant.

"My baby is gone... I will never see her again," Erica Perez, Grimes' mother said after the arraignment. "I have to move on day by day."

Two other people who were inside the home at the time of the shooting have also been charged with failing to provide information to police.
