In September of 2017, a witness, who has not been identified, testified against Russell's brother Stephen Jones who was on trial for sex trafficking. Jones was eventually convicted and sentenced to serve 25 years in prison.

Prosecutors say in July of 2018, Russell approached that same witness, who was walking on the street with a child, and said, "my brother is doing 25 years and you think you can just walk around like nothing happened."

Then, in retaliation of the testimony, Russell began punching the witness in the head multiple times, according to prosecutors.

She was sentenced to serve 12 months and a day in prison.
