ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Rochester Police are promising to keep a strong presence in the area after chaos ensued near the 2019 Park Ave Fest.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of Dartmouth and Thayer streets after receiving complaints about large house parties and people throwing beer on parked cars.

When police arrived, they say a group of over 200 people refused to leave the area and bottles and other debris were thrown at them.

After several warnings to leave the area, police say more glass bottles and debris were thrown to which they responded by firing off a pepper ball in order to get rid of the combative crowd.

Police say that there were no incidents in the festival itself, which will continue on Sunday.
