ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Police have identified 41-year-old Juan Pena-Mendez, of Rochester, as the victim who was found shot at least once, dead in a parked car Saturday morning.

According to Rochester PD, at approximately 11:15 a.m., officers responded to the area of North Clinton Ave and Rialto Street for the report of shots fired.

When they arrived, they found a car parked near 57 Rialto St. with Pena-Mendez inside. In a preliminary investigation, police say the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in a driveway when unknown suspect(s) fired in excess of a dozen gunshots into the car.

Police say the victim does not live on Rialto Street and police are still determining the reason why the victim was there and what the motive may be, but they do not think this is a random crime.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with ingestion is asked to call 911, the Major Crimes Unit at 585-428-7157, Crime Stoppers at 585-423-9300 or email MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov
