Rochester Police responded to a reported robbery in progress at the M&T Bank on East Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say that the suspect grabbed the cash and took off in a Blue Nissan Murano SUV.

The suspect encountered police on Melville Street and  attempted to hit them. One police officer fired a round, hitting the car.

The suspect managed to escape by driving his vehicle across front lawns of homes, finally crashing into a vehicle parked on Laurelton Road. Police then pursued the suspect by foot.

The suspect was located and apprehended in the backyard of a home on Westchester Avenue.

“Right now we have major crimes investigating as well as other officers on the scene," said Rochester Police Deputy Chief LaRon Singletary in a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
