Run the ROC: Young athletes to complete marathon over 5 weeks

August 05, 2019 09:17 AM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — When you think of a marathon, you may think of veteran runners taking on the challenge. But the same goes for some great young athletes for the 2019 Rochester Marathon

The Kids Marathon kicks off Aug. 18 at Seneca Park. It's a great way for kids 12 and under to participate in marathon weekend. Kids will track the miles they run or walk as they're training. The goal is 5 miles each week and they'll earn rewards along the way at Fleet Feet branches.

Then on marathon weekend, Saturday, Sept. 21, everyone gathers at Frontier Field to finish the final 1.2 miles of the Kids Marathon.

"Each week, it's just the children and the families get into it," said Ellen Brenner-Boutillier, co-owner of Fleet Feet. "They're just training all summer long for this goal of an event, so mom and dad can do 26.2 and the kids can, too."

Registration for the Kids Marathon at the Rochester Marathon closes at the end of the month.

News10NBC is a proud of sponsor of the Rochester Marathon, Sept. 21 and 22.

Don't forget you can keep track of News10NBC's Rochester Marathon Relay team and our training leading up to the big race!
