This week's Scholar Athlete is reaching new heights, whether on the soccer field, in the classroom, or wherever else her future blasts off to- the sky is literally the limit.
Olivia Wall, after all, has come a long way from when her parents first signed her up for soccer at the age of three.
"The more I started to play the game, the more I started to love it and work harder," she says.
Now a senior at Spencerport, Olivia is entering her third year as the captain of the nationally ranked girls soccer team .
"When we first started play at Spencerport, it was just to have fun and win games. We never thought it would become this big," she says.
"Now that it has, it's cool to see something that was a hobby become something that people can rally around."
Olivia and the Rangers are looking for their third straight state title, but she has aspirations beyond soccer. Next year, she'll study mechanical engineering with a aerospace minor at Cornell, an engineering passion that began while playing with Lego as a kid.
"I joined the robotics team and realized this is what I want to do. Engineering, design... creating different things to improve society," she says.
In her free time, Olivia volunteers with Lego robotics teams for grade school kids in Spencerport, a soccer star who gives back off the field as well.
"You get more kids to play soccer, you get more kids to do robotics and go into STEM fields, and it's really cool to see the impact you have on your community versus how it affects you."
Congratulations to Olivia Wall, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide family of dealerships.
