AVON, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Sectional tournaments in soccer continue tonight and the Avon Braves girls soccer team is ranked number one in class B2. One of the keys to their success is our Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
“I mainly focus on the overall team goals,” says Avon senior Abby Decillis.
Lots of athletes say that, but few have the stats that Abby has on the soccer field: eight shutouts at the time of our interview just this year.
The Avon senior goalie has 20 shutouts in her career, but she truly does have a team-first attitude.
"It's nice to get a shutout, but in the end, a win is a win and I just want to be there for my team," Abby said.
Abby and the Braves have been doing a lot of winning. They won the Sectional Championship in her sophomore and junior seasons, not to mention a Sectional Title in basketball as well.
She's been succeeding in the classroom as well. Abby's been on the honor roll every quarter since middle school and is a member of the National Honor Society.
"It meant a lot because National Honor Society is a very rewarding thing, academic achievements, volunteer work and character.,” Abby said. “Knowing that I had those meant a lot to me."
Next year Abby plans on studying marketing in college.
Congratulations Abby Decillis, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
