ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Sectional tournaments for girls soccer begin tonight and with eyes on a Sectional Title, the Scholar-Athlete of the Week is a captain of a team ranked number one.
Referred to as the backbone of her soccer team, Grace Collins has played everywhere and all the time for Greece Olympia; she's started every game since eighth grade and played multiple positions for the Spartans.
"Especially being a captain, you need to know how to direct people and i feel like having that versatility helps you direct other people to play," Grace said.
She also said that her own versatility on the field has allowed her to help her teammates.
"You know the struggles they're going through if they're getting beat on the outside,” Grace said, "I'm able to step up and help them."
Aside from being a captain on the soccer field, Grace is also a member of the National Honor Society and was recently presented with an award for student athlete excellence, but she's not resting on her laurels.
"It's very rewarding," Grace said, "a reward for me to keep going to get better."
She's also the Co-President of the Student Council, a role that lets her create memories for her class that will last a lifetime.
Grace would also like to impart some wisdom on younger students.
"You just have to work hard for everything you receive in life whether that's school work or on the field," Grace said.
Nice advice and congratulations Grace Collins, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
