ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — "I'm always more organized when I have a sport to do,” says Judith Lanahan, “it keeps me grounded."
And that must mean that Judith Lanahan is a very grounded person. She's currently training for the indoor track season, in the spring she's a school record holder in outdoor track and in the fall she's a captain on Mercy's soccer team.
"Being a captain of the soccer team was a lot about leading by example,” says Judith, “always working hard consistently trying your best every day, realizing that has an effect outside of the classroom as well."
That effect has carried her far, Judith has a perfect GPA and the National Honor Society member wants to study engineering in college next year.
"I would like to go into a STEM field, I like the idea of seeing problems in the world and working with other people to fix them."
In her spare time she also volunteers at Nativity Prep teaching piano lessons and sees the growth in her students very rewarding.
"We found this one song that he really wanted to play and it clicked with him that it was fun playing piano, just seeing that jump from piano being work to being fun was really cool for me."
Keep racing toward the future, and congratulations Judith Lanahan, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
