A sewage spill in Geneva prompted Seneca Lake State Park officials to shut down swimming at their beach.

According to the Finger Lakes Times, 5,000 gallons of sewage went into a creek that empties into Seneca Lake. This happened last Friday when a pipe at a pump station near Geneva's wastewater treatment plant failed.

Park workers became aware on Sunday and closed swimming.

The state park's department tested a sample of water -- and reopened the beach.
