GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — A 52-year-old sex offender who lives at a group home for mentally disabled adults in Gates has been arrested for sex abuse at a day program for those with developmental disabilities.

The Gates Police Department say that Timothy Young was arrested on Wednesday shortly after 1 p.m. after reports that he had forcibly committed a sex act on another male client at the Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Service Office at Bermar Park in Gates. Young, a level 2 registered sex offender, was attending a day program there.

Young was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sex act and first-degree sexual abuse. He was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail or $30,000 bond.

Young lives at a group home for mentally disabled adults on Lettington Avenue in Gates. In February, neighbors joined with local police and politicians to voice concern about the fact that the group home was housing level 2 and level 3 sex offenders. The area around the group home has 40 children under the age of 17, one mother said at the time.
