On Tuesday police identified the driver involved in the deadly hit and run which claimed the life of 24-year-old SUNY Geneseo grad Nick Iannarelli.

Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty confirmed their investigation led to Valeri Belioutsa, a 54-year-old truck operator from Ontario, Canada.

The Sheriff says no charges have been filed yet but wouldn’t go into detail as of why. If charges are filed, the LCSO will work with Canadian authorities to have the driver extradited.

Police say the SUNY Geneseo grad was in town for alumni weekend.

At 2:56 AM Saturday another driver reported seeing Iannarelli walking along Route 63 in dark clothing.

“Between the time of the 911 and time of arrival of Geneseo police, the male was found deceased,” said Sheriff Dougherty.

Thanks to surveillance footage, deputies pinpointed the truck and Highlight Motor Company by Saturday evening, and were in Canada by Monday talking with Belioutsa.

Police say the 54-year-old is a seasoned truck driver with HMG, working with the Canadian company for about seven years.

The LCSO also declined to comment on whether speed or alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

Emails to Highlight Motor Group have gone unanswered and WHEC calls were hung up on and ignored.
