GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Town of Gates held its sixth annual First Responders Day ceremony.

This year's ceremony has special meaning following the untimely passing of 48-year-old Joe Manuse.

Manuse died earlier this month after he was stung in the neck by a bee. He had been a Gates firefighter for 29 years.

Local citizen Deanna Marino was also recognized for administering first aid and CPR to an injured pedestrian who had been hit by two cars on Buffalo Road in Gates.
