GENEVA, N.Y. (WHEC) — In June, News10NBC told you about a Geneva company that is creating what might be the nation's first solar modular home community.

Ryan Wallace is CEO of the Solar Home Factory, and his vision to create homes that are low maintenance and have no utility costs appears to be gaining in popularity.

He told us they have now sold out their solar village in downtown Geneva and have two new developments in the works.

Photojournalist Mike Jaeger returned to the construction site where Wallace gave us an update.

Read the full transcription of Wallace's update below:

"So today, we are setting homes in our second phase. We'll pull up next to the crane. We have a specific distance we can be away from the crane so that it's weight-to-distance ratio is correct. We'll pull right up, then we'll rig it with the cables, then we'll lift it in place. We're going to be lifting three modules that will be placed on their foundation. And by the end of the day, you'll have some completed homes on site. What we'll have to do is get the box at just the right tilt. We don't want it flat. We actually want one edge to land first. We knock that edge into a block that we've got staged on there, so that's exactly where it needs to be, and then we'll slowly lay the other side down.""We've sold out this solar village here in downtown Geneva, and that actually sold very quickly. And we've very, very pleased to see the number of people were as excited to get into smaller more sustainable places. The main reason that people are moving into these homes is to have low maintenance and no utility cost. That daily pain of maintaining your home is the thing people are trying to get away from. They don't want to be mowing the half acre yard anymore. And then the second reason is here you can watch everything. You can watch the lake. You can walk to downtown. So the location plays a role. But interestingly, it's second to having a home that's just lower maintenance."

We have two new developments that we're in the early stages of putting together. One is in the town of Geneva, and the other is in Ithaca, specifically in the village of Lansing.

The most nerve-wracking part of today is seeing a couple of months of planning and hard work flying through the air. That's a little nerve-wracking. But what's interesting is it's more nerve-wracking leading up to it. When you see them actually in the air and you see the competence of the crane guys and our crew, they know what they're doing, and interestingly I'm just excited when they're in the air. And then once they come down the foundations, it's just this great sense of accomplishment."
