ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Imagine being at Disney World or a soccer tournament and being able to buy a life-like figurine of yourself or your child.

A Rochester company is creating memories with its 3D printed action figures and the subject is you.

Solidiphy is taking your photos to a new dimension.

"Solidiphy is a company that sells 3D printed figures of people and animals," says company president John Lacagnina, Sr.

From full body figurines, to bobbleheads, to mini caricatures, what you get is an uncanny likeness of yourself.

News10NBC's Brett Davidsen: "What kind of response do you get from people?"

John Lacagnina: "Well, first response is, 'that's weird,'" said Lacagnina. "Then they think it's cool, and then they love it."

We found out first-hand just how it works. The process starts with you stepping into a large scanning booth. Inside are 140 digital cameras which grab a full-body image of you from every perspective.

You review your photos which are then sent up to the cloud to render. Once that's done, the 3D image is electronically cleaned up and ready to be printed.

Lacagnina took us into the manufacturing area where they do the actual printing of the figurines. It lays down a thin layer of powder which will keep building until the image is complete.

"It literally slices you up into thousands of surfaces and eventually you become you," explains Lacagnina.

The figurines are then cleaned and touched up and sealed in hot wax.

The idea to print real-looking figurines came out of three other digital printing businesses Lacagnina owns.

"To me, it sounded logical to pick something like 3D printing because it's still a consumer product. It's still mass customization, since that's what we know how to do. And we had the work flow to do it," he said.

Solidiphy currently has these scanning booths in three locations.

"We have locations today at Carnival Cruise Lines, in the embarkation area in Miami. Then we have a location at Planet Hollywood, and we have another one at a place called Gulliver's Gate in Times Square," Lacagnina said.

But the company also has a mobile booth which can travel to any event -- from Spartan races to youth sports tournaments.

"Why would you have a trophy that is like everyone else's?" he points out. "Why not have an athletic trophy that is you?"

The possibilities are endless, and Lacagnina and his staff continue to think of new reasons to get printed. They can already do wedding cake toppers, ornaments, Lego heads, chess pieces, and even an urn of your departed pet.

Prices vary based on the type of figurine.

The important moments in your life, now captured in a new way.

"We call it the next dimension of memories and it is absolutely the ultimate selfie."

Solidiphy is also working on a smartphone app that will allow you to scan yourself and place yourself in your favorite video game.
