HOLLEY, N.Y. (WHEC/WGRZ)— One local community is calling for a marker dedicated to disgraced ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to be removed.

Back in 2000, a portion of the Erie Canalway trail in Holley was dedicated to Cuomo when he was the Housing and Urban Development Secretary. At the time, he helped secure $300 million for the Canal Corridor Initiative, which helped businesses along the canal and improved public spaces.

Now that Cuomo resigned from office with all the sexual harassment allegations, some neighbors want the trail renamed.

The Village of Holley board listened to the public comments Tuesday night, as at least one neighbor our Buffalo affiliate spoke to objected to the sign, but the board did not commit to a resolution to remove the marker and rename the trail.

"I think it’s dishonorable, I think when you see the monument that leads into our beautiful park, and it has his name on it, his name now represents sexual predator that represents covid issues in nursing homes, " Kerri Neale, a resident said. "It represents so much negativity, we don’t want that associated in our small town."
