Son injured, pets die in Perinton house fire

PERINTON, N.Y. (WHEC)- A family son was injured and family pets died in a house fire on Saturday on Ridgeview Drive.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, officers and firefighters from MCSO as well as the East Rochester, Fairport and Pittsford Fire Departments responded to the home around 2:35 p.m. for reports of the fire. According to a press release, the son of the home owner had come to let out some family pets while the family was attending a graduation party, and found that smoke was coming from the home.

Although firefighters were able to make entry into the home and remove the pets, "all did not survive", according to the press release.  The son was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and a laceration to his hand.

No people were inside the home at the time of the fire, which is believed to have started in the basement of the residence. The cause is still under investigation.

Ridgeview Drive was temporarily closed between Fair Oaks Drive and Westwood Drive but reopened around 5 p.m.
