ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — By the end of this month, you could start placing legal sports bets in New York.
Earlier this week, the state Gaming Commission voted unanimously to allow sports gambling at four casinos, including del Lago Resort & Casino in Seneca County. The state's tribal casinos plan to allow wagers too.
Rules and regulations must first be published in the State Register on June 26 — they don't take effect until that point. Casinos must also get the proper licenses to offer sports gambling then they can each announce an official start date.
Del Lago plans to open up sports betting by the beginning of August. Construction is already underway there to create a 6,000 square-foot lounge on the casino floor.
The casino partnered with DraftKings to create the sports book, which will seat around 200 people and have nearly floor-to-ceiling video display walls.
The Commission initially endorsed the idea of allowing sports wagering at the four facilities earlier this year. Legislation that would authorize wagers at sporting venues or on mobile devices has been introduced but has so far not received a vote in the Legislature.
