St. John Fisher College has suspended its cheerleading team after a video surfaced on social media showing team members using discriminatory language.
According to a letter sent out to students from President Gerard Rooney, St. John Fisher College learned of the video on Friday. In the letter, Rooney says that the campus does not and will not "support acts or behaviors that are not consistent with the values espoused in our mission statement and in the Fisher Creed."
Rooney concludes the letter by saying that cheerleading activities have been suspended indefinitely and that the College has launched an investigation that is ongoing.
A transcription of the letter is below:
Earlier today, the College learned of a video that was posted on social media showing some members of the College's cheerleading team using discriminatory language.
As a campus community, we will not support acts or behaviors that are not consistent with the values espoused in our mission statement and in the Fisher Creed.
Cheerleading activities have been suspended indefinitely. The College immediately launched an investigation, which is ongoing, and will follow its own internal disciplinary process as outlined in our student code of conduct.
