ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester’s Josana neighborhood celebrated a transformation on Friday.
The New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner announced the completion of Stadium Estates Phase II.
The $13 million development consists of 30 new residential buildings on formerly vacant land in Rochester’s Josana neighborhood.
Between Stadium Estates Phase I and Stadium Estates Phase II, the redevelopment project has created 58 new residential buildings with 91 affordable homes.
The President and CEO of Charles Settlement House Scott Benjamin says the project has been transformative for the neighborhood.
“This neighborhood was near rock bottom,” Benjamin. “The number of vacant homes changed on a weekly bases. Crime was high, unemployment was staggering and few people were involved in the neighborhood.”
Most of the homes have three or more bedrooms. Each has central air conditioning, laundry facilities, dishwashers and front porches.
The community building has a computer lab, a community room with a kitchenette for events, offices and outdoor space.
