The New York State Public Service Commission has approved the sale of Rochester-based broadband provider Greenlight Networks to Tom Golisano's company Grand Oaks.
The Commission says the purchase will enable Greenlight to expand its network in the Finger Lakes region to rival established cable and internet giants such as Spectrum and Frontier.
Greenlight currently offers high-speed fiber internet in some communities in the Rochester area. The company has plans to expand to other areas in New York and Connecticut.
Greenlight's website touts that their service can give a connection of up to 1,000 megabits per second, which it says "up to 100x faster than your average connection."
