ALBANY N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Cuomo announced the results of a statewide crackdown on underage drinking for the month of April.
According to Cuomo, the joint effort by the New York State Liquor Authority, the New York State DMV, and local law enforcement were able to visit 851 liquor selling businesses. Of those 851, 186 were found to be selling to underage agents.
The compliance checks covered 46 counties in New York.
Businesses found selling to underage customers face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation.
"Underage drinking and fake IDs are not only illegal but can lead to reckless decisions with lifelong consequences," Cuomo said. "We will continue to take action to hold businesses accountable for illegal sales as well as those who use fake IDs. We have zero tolerance for these offenses in New York."
